What are the Lock, Upgrade and Withdrawal options in counselling process of Common Law Admission Test?

Lock – Candidates will be given this option in each of the counselling round after the publication of indicative seat allotment list. Exercising this ‘Lock’ option in CLAT 2018 counselling will confirm the allotted NLU choice for that counselling round. Further, the ‘Lock’ option debars candidates to shift their choice to any other NLU in the current counselling round.

Shifting/ Up-gradation – CLAT Committee will be offering this option from the second round of CLAT counselling. Moreover, this option will be offered to only those candidates who have participated in the previous counselling round. The candidates will be automatically considered shifted or upgraded to a higher NLU against any vacancy arising in the preferred NLU through his/ her choice via subsequent allotment list.

Withdrawal – A candidate can exercise ‘Withdrawal’ option in two ways. If any candidate attending counselling of CLAT 2018 fails to deposit the requisite amount of counselling fees, he/ she will lose the chance to get admission in NLUs of his/ her choice as his/ her name will be dropped from the admission merit list and this is the first way to withdraw an NLU seat. Further, all the candidates who have been allotted NLUs will be offered a ‘Withdrawal’ option before the final seat allotment list, during third round of CLAT 2018 counselling. The candidates who wish to withdraw their candidature from the NLU admission process by the aforesaid date (refer CLAT counselling schedule given above) will be allowed to withdraw from the admissions and the deposited counselling fee will be transferred to their bank accounts after a deduction of Rs. 10,000 from that fee.
